Movie Info

Ashoke and Ashima go from Calcutta to New York after an arranged marriage. There they start a new life together and Ashima gives birth to a son. Ashoke names the child Gogol, after the famous Russian author, being a link to a secret past and, as far as Ashoke hopes, a better future. Gogol learns that there is a thin line between his Bengali roots and being a first-generation American teenager. Gogol rejects his given name, dates a rich American girl and begins studying architecture at Yale, while his parents cling to their Bengali traditions. In the end Gogol begins to see the links between the old world of his parents and his future in the new world.

This Adaption-Drama based on the novel by Jhumpa Lahiri was released on March 9th, 2007, filmed in Calcutta and New York, directed by Mira Nair and stars Zuleikha Robinson, Tabu, Kal Penn, Jacinda Barrett, Irrfan Khan.
